Stephanie Banker (Your favorite dispatcher)
I was Al's dispatcher at Schneider and Hogan. He was the type of man that could make a bad or even good day better. He always talked about how thankful he was for his job and it showed he was AMAZING. He talked about his family to me every time we saw each other and how much he loved them and was lucky to have them. He was always happy and had a distinct laugh that would always put a smile on your face if not make you laugh with him. I can't express enough how much our little talks meant to me through the years and his love for everything. He will be greatly missed!!

My heart is so heavy. I delayed writing this in hopes that I would find the right words. They say that our footprint on this Earth is found in the way people talk about us after we are gone. You have impacted so many and so many of us will miss you terribly. As I read through everyone's messages on here, I cannot help but smile and laugh... and cry too. Your presence was always synonymous with happiness, laughter, and feeling loved. I remember at family gatherings that I could pick your laugh out of a crowd. Your happiness was infectious. :) I am relieved that you are no longer hurting. Keep my Dad company up there... and please give him a hard time every now and again. Can't wait to give you a hug again, Uncle Al. Those were always the best. Love and miss you. <3

When I think back to all of the memories that I have of uncle Al, nearly every one is filled with his laughter and smile. Both were unforgettable. One of my very first memories of him had to be at least 30 years ago during the first day of my parents 2nd floor addition. Family and friends were there to help remove the roof. My mom, my brother and I were eating breakfast at the table when a leg came through the ceiling above the table we were eating at. When the dust settled we looked up through the hole and there was uncle Al looking down at us with a huge smile on his face..."Sorry Anne!!"...followed by laughter! I'm not sure what led up to that moment, but I always picture him doing a Clark Griswold across the floorboards! Chris and I still joke about that to this day! Now I picture him looking down at us once again from heaven, with that unforgettable smile. Rest in peace uncle Al.

Everyone seems to be posting about family parties, particularly the 4th of July, and that's where all my favorite "Uncle Al memories" come from too. Throwing all us kids in the pool, chasing us around the yard, shooting free throws in the driveway, offering us a beer in the garage, and the annual bean bag tournament. I remember one year, Lauren and I were partners, and we were up against Al and my mom for the championship game. They BARELY won, he gave me the biggest hug, said "great game, kiddo" then had to take a jab at mom (of course!) and told us "you two definitely didn't get your skills from HER! I need to go sit down, carrying her on my back for all these games has me beat." Mom didn't have a good comeback and he kept going at it. We all laughed our butts off! Gosh, his laugh, you could never not smile and laugh with him. He was such a kind hearted, hard working, hilarious, happy, loving soul who has gone home way too soon. Uncle Al, through your journey, you have taught me the true meaning of strength, courage, hope, faith, and ultimately...love. You have touched the lives of so many people, I feel incredibly lucky to call you my uncle. We all take comfort knowing that you are no longer in pain, and that you're up there fishing with the coolest boat, and all the cold beer you could ever ask for. Rest easy Uncle Al. We all love you, we'll miss you, and you will forever be in our hearts.

Hey big guy, I miss you so much. It becomes unbearable at times... a big piece of my heart left with you! But, I find comfort in knowing your looking over all of us, and thinking of the awesome times we had together. You were not just my dad, you were my best friend. Fishing with you are some of my best memories. Regardless if we caught fish or not we would always catch a little buzz and joke around or pick on each other. The camp fires in the back yard were a blast, even though we over did it most times... And i mean with too big of a fire and our drinks. I was most to blame for both, but you were the one who got in trouble with mom! Ha ha ha! It was always so funny. But mom could never stay mad at you because you were just too awesome of a guy to stay mad at. I will miss everything about you dad! I thank you so much for the life lessons you taught me and all of our good times. I know that you are in an awesome place now with endless huge fish to catch in an amazing boat so comfortable with cold ones to enjoy. So cheers dad and rest easy. I love you and cant wait to see you and fish with you again someday. Find the best spot and bait to use for when I arrive. Love you forever and always big guy. Your son Jon

Family parties just won't be the same without Uncle Al. The only time I was a winner of the bags tournament at the annual 4th of July party was when Uncle Al was my partner. What a fun day that was! I will always remember him as fun-loving and just a very pleasant, kind person. It was obvious that he was a hard-working man who loved his family so much - definitely someone to admire. We will miss you, Uncle Al! Rest in peace.

Some people come along in your life that leaves a lasting impression in your life. Al was that for me back in my teenage years. When others doubted me or my ability, Al was always there to encourage me, tell me I could do anything I put my mind too and showed a faith in me that only a big brother can do. We worked together and it was there I learned from Al about work ethic and watched and learned as he taught by example of what it meant to work hard and do whatever it takes to take care of your family. I have many great memories with Al that I will always cherish. Until we meet again my brother Love Chris Hankiewicz

I have always considered myself blessed to have so many wonderful people in my family that set a great example for me. I looked up to you Uncle Al and it was always fun talking and laughing with you at family parties. I will always remember your laugh when people gathered in the kitchen or around the patio. It was infectious and was always a sign to me that people were having a good time. I Love you and please watch over all of us. I am glad that you are at peace in heaven.

Kathy Long Al's Sister-in-law
I needed to light another candle because I didn't get to finish what was most important. That was about the wonderful man that Al was. If you look up the word "kind" in the dictionary you'll see his picture next to it.He was so good to our family and he had a laugh that was contagious. He loved my Sister and did his best to be a good husband and father. He had to be one of the hardest working men I've ever met. Just content with the blessings God gave him. A few months ago Al told me that he had a lot of talks with the Lord late at night. I believe They are now talking face to Face in the most beautiful place where we will someday meet again.

Kathy Long -aka-"LambZie"-Nickname given to me by Al when I wore a very Fuzzy,Bright Pink, ~WOOL~ sweater to a family Christmas Party
I Remember the first time Barbara brought Al home to meet us! They were both "smitten". She said, "He's Mine". Those words were proven over and over again by both of them. The perfect example of "True Love". One of my favorite memories of Al is when I was living in California and working for a radio station. It was Public Relations Flight Day with "The Blue Angels" and I was the third and last to go up,after the local Cable Co. President and a retiring Newspaper photographer. Both men looked pretty shook after their rides. The temp. was 110 degrees in the desert. I was just about ready to CHICKEN OUT...and I felt my phone vibrate...there were "6" messages all from Navy "Al" aka "Popeye"... (1)"Did you go yet" (2) "You'd "Better "Call Me when you get down (3)"Hey LambZie" I haven't heard anything!(4)"How The Heck Did You get to Fly With The "Blue Angels" You're the luckiest girl in the whole world!(5)"Well, I'm still waiting to hear from you" You'd better call me as soon as you land"!(6)"Did you land yet?" Needless to say...there was NO WAY I could not do that ride.I would've never lived that one down! Thanks to Al, and YES, He was the FIRST one I called when I landed.

I've always enjoyed our visits at family gatherings and listening to your stories. Nobody could tell a story like you - from growing up, to your time in the navy to your jobs - the gas station, tuckpointing, cable and then truck driving, and of course your family. You always struck me as a laid back, easy going, live and let live kind of guy. You've touched a lot of lives and from what I've seen can be proud of the life you lived as well as your family - and when all is said and done, what more can a guy ask for? I'll miss the stories, but take solace knowing your pain is gone. Until we meet again.

I have many great memories of Uncle Al going back to my childhood. I think the first one was when he was helping with my parent's house in tearing off an old roof to put an addition on. We were sitting on the floor in the kitchen doorway eating lunch and all of the sudden his foot came crashing through the ceiling. It was like something from an episode of Home Improvement. I think we were both nervous and thought it was pretty funny at the same time, especially when he poked his head through the hole after ripping his foot out of it to make sure we were ok. He was always one of the uncles to mess around and play with the kids during family parties, especially Fourth of July. We would make sure of that by constantly pestering him until he chased us, or threw us to the other side of the pool. I'm sure he had a good time too because he would laugh when we came up choking on water! I'll never forget his distinct laugh. In more recent years we shared our experiences with each other of his truck driving and my flying; like places we went, when things got a bit scary or something broke. I think we both agreed it was tough being away from home and family. He was always the kind of man that was there for his family. He will forever be in our minds and hearts. We will miss him always.

You once asked me what my full name was. So I told you it was "Penny Jean" well that was my mistake and you ALWAYS called me Penny JO! It was that, or Sweetheart. Ever since then you never called me Penny. I loved how you would find every chance to try to throw it in when you had the opportunity, and then laugh cause you found your chance. You can laugh again now Al, love you and miss you!!

To the best dad a son could ever ask for. You were always there for me during good times and bad times. You always did what was best for me no matter how difficult. All my memories of you will never be forgotten. You raised me and taught me so much. You showed me what it takes to be a man. You taught me right from wrong and how to treat people that you love and care for. When I play with my children, it reminds me of how you played with me and my brother as we grew up. I am forever grateful for all that you did for us. I am so proud that you are my dad. I miss you so much already. I only hope that I can live to be half the man that you were. You will forever be in my heart and the hearts of everyone who loves you. I love you dad.
