Mark Dillingham, 61, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 8, 2025, at his longtime home at Bethshan (https://bethshan.org/) in Palos Heights, IL. Born in Oklahoma City, OK, to Robert and Judith (Bloedel) Dillingham, Mark was the proud older brother of Scott (Jill) and a devoted uncle to his beloved nieces, Halsey and Lane.
Raised in Elmhurst, IL, Mark cherished summers spent on Pretty Lake, IN, and Lake Ripley, WI, where he fished, sailed, water skied and made lifelong memories with his brother and cousins, Todd and Jeff. Mark attended school in Elmhurst and was a proud York High School Duke where he served as manager for the Boys' Cross Country team under the watchful eye and protective wing of Coach Joe Newton. Mark was able to celebrate no less than 5 state championships with his time supporting the team.
For over 40 years, Mark thrived at Bethshan, working hard at the Elim greenhouse and workshop where he celebrated his retirement earlier this year. During his time at Bethshan, he took great pleasure in competing in Special Olympics bocce, where he earned countless medals, he also competed in swimming and baseball. We are forever grateful for the adventures that living at Bethshan afforded Mark, from trips out of state, attending the orchestra, and movies and dinner outings with staff he came to view as family. A die-hard White Sox fan, country and popular music enthusiast, and self-proclaimed "strong guy," Mark lived with unwavering determination, humor, and an "I can do it myself" spirit. Mark's spirit and resilience was always a refreshing (and sometimes surprising) injection into his interactions with his extended support network of medical professionals and supporters - we are grateful for their support along Mark's amazing journey.
Preceded in death by his father, Bob, Mark leaves behind his mother, Judy, brother Scott, sister-in-law Jill, and adoring nieces Halsey and Lane, who will continue his legacy of kindness and resilience. His laughter, grit, and love for life will be deeply missed.
A celebration of Mark's life will be held at Bethshan, 12927 S. Monitor Ave., Palos Heights, IL on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at 3:30pm. All are welcome.
