I lived across the street from Gary, Claudia, & the kids in Palos Hills back in the late 70's, early 80's. I remember how Gary & Claudia were runners, & would stop at our apple tree in the front yard for fresh apples after a run. I remember what an incredibly sad time it was when Claudia lost her battle. I was always honored that I knew such a talented, successful music man. RIP Gary.

It was truly an honor and a privilege to know the man with the golden ears, the one who always made everyone around him sound better. Gary loved talking shop, and was beyond generous with his time in answering my ongoing series of "How did you do THAT?" questions. Gary was a true gentleman who defined the word class in everything he did, both personally and professionally.

Ed: I was so saddened to hear about Gary passing. I met him in the late 1960's and had the privilege of working on various musical projects with him throughout the years. He was always very professional, gracious, and kind in the studio and never hesitated to offer suggestions and guidance to make my recordings better. He will be missed, but his genius will live on in his work. Joyce: I also worked with Gary over the years, and was always impressed with his professionalism and kindness towards the performers. He was an exceptional musician who knew how to work so well with people, and those are two of the greatest gifts. We will miss you, good man.

I met Gary over 20 years ago. He was one of the nicest men I've ever met. He always had a smile on his face, a kind word, and would take time to chat. I know he fought like a soldier, and his optimism and spirit were truly inspiring. He will live on in the hearts and minds of the people he touched, the music he helped create, and most importantly in his children and grandchildren and future generations. Godspeed Gary - the heavenly band just got an amazing sound engineer!

So much love to everyone - the whole family is a cornerstone of my youth - I've loved and admired Gary and the whole family ever since meeting them as our back-door neighbors. Babysitting Dawn and Todd, watching everyone grow up, having 4th of July bottle rocket fights, pool parties - just being neighbors, being family. Love to you all, my prayers and thoughts are with you. xo Michelle Barrett
