50th Reunion written by Marilyn B. Roche

Well fifty years has certainly passed quickly! When we graduated in 1958, I continued my employment at Wesley for a couple of months. I met Joseph Santoro through a mutual friend. We married in December and moved to Michigan. I retained employment at a 50 bed hospital for a year and a half, and learned a lot in a short time. It was quite an experience. Joe finished college, while I worked, then it was back to Chicago. I then was employed at McNeal Hospital in Berwyn. In 1962 I had my first child, with two to follow within the next four years. Joe and I divorced in 1969. Fortunately, my parents were able to help me with the children. I went back to work at Ingall's Memorial Hospital in Harvey. I became Head Nurse of Surgical Pediatrics. In 1972 I married Robert Roche; he had four children of his own. We took the entire gang (except the 18 year old who refused to come with) to Disney World's Grand Opening in Florida with us on our honeymoon. So, with my own pediatric section at home, I decided to work part-time. For the next ten years 1975-1985, we raised the children. I worked part-time for a home health agency through the south and southwest suburbs of Chicago. The children were graduating high school, and going to college, and getting married. I began working in 1987 in the chemical dependency facility at Ingall's until Bob and I retired in 1994 to Florida. I lost Bob in November of 1998. I now have 13 grandchildren. The youngest is two; she keeps us on our toes. I am truly blessed with all of my children and grandchildren. They are all healthy and I am proud of them. Presently, I work very part-time at a retirement home. I also do volunteer work at a blood bank. I have been on five cruises in the last ten years, and travel around the country to visit my family. In my leisure time I enjoy water aerobics and word puzzles. I dance whenever I get the chance. I have had a blessed fifty years.
