I met Carol in 1966 when her sister Ruth and I started dating. She was the Maid of Honor at our wedding in 1968. In 1970, after graduating from Medical school, she was searching for an Intern position. She wanted to visit a Hospital in Rochester New York and needed someone to go with her, and drive her there. I was, I think, selected or elected. We had a quick trip, saw Niagara Falls, and returned home. During that trip we talked and got to know each other. I realized then that Carol was not an "average" person. She was an "exceptional" person in every way. Through the years she exhibited that in every area of her life. Never boastful or puffed up with herself, she treated everyone with kindness and sincerity. Her skill as a Surgeon was known to all. Her charity and empathy for the less fortunate is well documented. She loved her entire family and extended family as well as colleagues and friends. If you spent more than a few minutes with her you would never think about her physical condition at all. Instead, you would you remark to yourself afterwards - - - what a remarkable person that little lady is. Humor, a quick mind, and an adventuresome spirit she was gifted with. Those who knew her, know she was not a " down-and-out " complainer. She possessed calm and self assurance. Her example as a Christian serving others and bringing healing as well as peace is her legacy. My wife (her sister), my children, and myself owe her a debt of gratitude we can only repay by following her example of living a Christian life of service to others.
