sad to read that Ralph Fasel passed on When I was in high school Ralph gave me the opportunity to work part-time at his plant/tree nursery Fasel and Sons at 108th and Cicero in Oak Lawn. Learned a lot about flowers, plants, bushes, evergreens, Warrens sod and trees. He taught me how to drive his new Ford flatbed truck and I would go out to the Warrens sod field to have sod loaded and then deliver the sod to customers. Good hard work for a young guy and got a great tan being outdoors. Ralph never did like arborvitae but he stocked some because he knew certain customers would want to buy them. I recall when a customer would drive away with an arborvitae sticking out of his trunk, Ralph would remove the stogie from his mouth and spit on the ground saying 'Ugh good riddance arborvitae'. I have other recollections of my time with Ralph and they are positive ones He was proud of his wife and small sons and grew his business to bless them. Ralph was quite a guy.
