Jeff was one of the first guys I got to know when I joined engineering at International Harvester/Navistar/ International Truck and Engine Corp. The things I remember are things like:
HIs clear vision of how things worked. Organizations, processes, manufacturing - he had the ability to bring things into a clear focus.
His great design capabilities and his follow up. He was never a guy to throw something over the fence. He got involved and saw things through to the end. He was one of the guys that helped make the engines of the 90's the best engines ever built .
When I decided to build my house, we went on a road trip to look at backhoes. He had a red mustang with a 5.0L engine. You would think, young man, hot car - Drive Fast, Take Chances, but he was a very conservative driver. He was a farm kid like me and we were good friends. He was so very real and down to earth. He came out and helped me build my house a couple of times, along with many of my friends from International. We were a kind of band of brothers and I miss that these days...
So many fond memories of working hard, solving the toughest problems and creating something really, really good. He was a very great influence on me and our company. Lord I will miss him, knowing now that I won't see him on this side of heaven again...
I was sad when our paths separated at Navistar, but not near as sad as I am to hear about his passing.
God be with your family at this time of mourning. He was a very good man.
