William Hollaar

December 7, 1948 — March 30, 2020

William Allen "Bill" Hollaar, age 71, passed away March 30, 2020 in Palos Heights, IL. Beloved son of Lois and the late William "Bud" Hollaar of Orland Park, IL. Dear brother of Vivian (the late Dave) Sytsma of Friendship, WI, Larry (Debbie) Hollaar of Monee, IL and Ken (Heather) Hollaar of Crestwood, IL. Also survived by 3 nieces, 6 nephews, 22 grand nieces and nephews, as well as 2 great-grand nieces. Bill was preceded in death by his father, William (Bud) Hollaar (2013), and his nephew, Timothy Sytsma (2014).

Bill was born December 7, 1948 to Bud and Lois (nee Haak) Hollaar in Hull, ND. The family moved from the farm in ND to the Chicago area in 1955 so Bill could attend the Elim Christian School in Palos Heights, IL. When Bill was 18, he completed his time at Elim and attended Garden School for the Handicapped in Burbank, IL. Later when Elim established its adult services and workshop, Bill returned to Elim and has attended faithfully until the present time.

Since moving to Chicago, Bill and his family have attended the Palos Heights Christian Reformed Church. Bill made a public profession of his faith while John Vander Lugt was pastor. More recently, Bill looked forward to the Thursday night meetings of the Friendship Club held at the church.

Bill enjoyed staying in touch with all his aunts and uncles from around the country. They often called him on the phone, sent him cards, or special gifts like a new baseball cap, or a jigsaw puzzle. He had quite a collection of both!

The Hollaar Family Reunions were a special time for Bill. A highlight was having his cousins join him in The Chicken Dance.

Bill's friendly ways and kind heart will be missed by everyone who knew him. But we will see him again in a glorified body on resurrection day!
