Walter H. Schindler, Jr., age 87, U.S. Army Veteran. Beloved husband for 61 years to the late Carolyne A. Schindler, nee Lentfer (2021). Beloved son of the late Walter and Clara (nee Jacobs) Schindler. Loving brother of the late Shirley Ann (late George) Moadush. Kind brother-in-law of Richard (Georjean) Lentfer and Frank (Ingeborg) Lentfer. Fond uncle of the late Pamela Moadush and Sheryl (Tom) Rotunno, Susan (Craig) Sipich, Kristina (Robert) Murray, Clinton (Sherry) Lentfer, Jeffrey (Stephanie) Lentfer, Melissa (Robert) Taussig and Elizabeth (Nick) Osborne. Dear great-uncle of 17 and great-great uncle of six. Dearest cousin of Paul (Nancy) Jacobs and Bob (Lori) Jacobs.
Walter was an active member at Thorn Creek Reformed Church and Palos Park Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed going on mission trips. He and Carolyne hosted numerous Bible studies at their home. Walter worked for many years as a machinist at American Steel Foundry in Hammond, IN and Wyman Gordon Manufacturing in Harvey, IL. After retiring as a machinist, Walter became involved at the University of Illinois at Chicago helping students and professors by working on and repairing lab equipment and he also spent over seven years working at Trinity Christian College in the physical plant department. Wally was also an excellent woodworker and talented handyman.
Services for Walter are Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at Colonial Chapel, 15525 S. 73rd Ave. (155th/Wheeler Dr. & Harlem) Orland Park, IL with a Visitation from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. and a Funeral Service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment Washington Memory Gardens, Homewood, IL.
