Timothy L. “Tim” Gibbons, age 63, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on July 16, 2026. He was born on January 26, 1963 in Mount Vernon, WA.
As a young man and through his life, Tim wore many hats. The first was a cowboy hat, helping his uncle on his ranch in Colorado! He also pursued work in construction, tech, teaching, and mentoring others in the Word of God and found passion in each. He received a degree in Education from Trinity Christian College, though teaching always came naturally to him. He was passionate about history, theology, and long conversations about both.
Tim’s greatest worldly joy was being a daddy to his precious daughters. Appropriately, he was the king of dad jokes and could always be counted on for a chuckle on the darkest of days. Though light hearted, Tim was not one for small talk and genuinely wanted to connect with others for who they were. As his co-workers at Chicago Prison Outreach have said, “In his eyes, no one was ever too far gone, too deep in the dark, or too broken for God’s love to reach, embrace, and transform.”
Tim was a man whose heart desired to bring others to know the Grace of God, and dedicated his life to this mission in any way he felt called to serve. His legacy continues in the works of Chicago Prison Outreach and the Exodus Project among so many others. More about his ministry work here
Tim was a treasured son, husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, teacher, mentor, and pillar of many communities. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Tamara (Thompson); their daughters Dana and Shannon; mother Beverly (Carlson); siblings Karin Hurry, Jeanne Valois, Reverend Kirk Gibbons and their families. He is reunited in death with his granddaughter Delilah, older sister Joy Buchanan, and beloved father, Reverend Roger Gibbons.
Visitation will be Friday July 31, 2026 at First Reformed Church of South Holland, 15924 South Park, South Holland, IL from 9-11am with his Funeral Service immediately following. Tim’s passing was unexpected, and his family is navigating this loss with both grief and gratitude for those supporting and surrounding them. His final wish would be to celebrate the Word with others, so his family invites all to come for his service and stay after for refreshments and sharing of memories. Live streaming will be available at this link for those who cannot attend the service. Link to First Reformed Church of South Holland’s YouTube Channel.
In lieu of flowers, the family would be deeply grateful for contributions toward final life expenses. They cannot afford the house without Tim’s income. This money will allow them to keep up with house payments and bills while they clean up and prepare to sell. Donations can be made below or via PayPal (@DanaGibbons).
Tim’s family invites you to further celebrate his life by sharing any photos you may have of him. Please upload your photos by 9am Thursday, July 30 to be included in his memorial video: Photo upload link for Tim Gibbons
