Thornton Rodney Jegen
August 8, 1933 — March 20, 2022
Thornton Rodney Jegen, age 88, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving daughters. Adoring husband of 65 years to the late Esthermae Boomker Jegen. Loving father of Alison (Richard) Shank, Melissa (Robert) Gray, and Celeste (Jerry) Jegen-Mannix. Cherished grandfather of Melissa (Christopher) Grataski, Mason (Sarah) Shank, and Samantha Shank, Candace (Maj. Nate) Kane, Brant (Courtney) Gray, and Ellis (Cody) Holderbecker. Dearest great-grandfather of Willem, Colton, Hazel, soon to be born Wyatt, Merritt, Ford, Guy, Pearson and the late Henry. Dear brother of Barbara (Cal) Bouma, brother of the late Frank Kenneth (late Georgianna) Jegen. Dear uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Rod was an outgoing, adventurous man who loved his precious wife and family dearly, his faith, friends, flying, sailing, scuba diving, reading, and starting endless business ventures. He was a proud Korean War Veteran (Army~7th Division). He never met a cookie or chocolate donut he didn’t like, and his favorite outing was to Lumes for a crispy waffle and hugs from his Lumes friends. He was a master of trivia facts, keeping his family on their toes, and could fix anything that flew, sailed or moved.
Visitation Sunday, March 27, 2022, 3-7 PM at Colonial Chapel, 15525 S. 73rd Ave. (155th/Wheeler Dr. & Harlem) Orland Park, IL. Funeral Service Monday, March 28, 2022, 10:00 a.m. at Colonial Chapel.
