Thomas Maslan

Thomas E. (Tom) Maslan, 83, of Tinley Park, Illinois, died on January 4, 2024.  Beloved husband of Gail (nee Zoppa) and father of Jennifer (Matthew) Schroeder and Steven (Amy) Maslan. Loving grandfather of Joshua (Kassandra) Schroeder, Molly Schroeder (partner Robert Brandt), Joseph Schroeder, Madeline Maslan, and Zachary Maslan. Great-grandfather of Little Winnie and Baby Hazel.  Dear brother of Chuck (Dorothy), John (Barbara), James (Cathy), Janet Maslan, Robert (Andrea), and Michael (Charlene).  Uncle of countless nieces and nephews.  Friend to all.

Tom was born in Chicago, IL, on July 12, 1940, to John and Geraldine Maslan - the third of seven children.  Life was never quiet in the Maslan household.  Tom attended De La Salle High School and went on to join his father as an apprentice electrician in 1960.  An avid roller skater, he met his wife, Gail Zoppa, at Swank Roller Rink in Chicago. They were married on August 11, 1962.  Tom was drafted into the Army in January 1966 and was sent to Vietnam in August of 1967 just after his daughter was born. Tom then worked 44 years for Forbes Electric in Chicago.  He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

A man loved by all who got to know him while he pursued his interests in painting, photography, and always searching for that next big deal at an auction house.  Recently he enjoyed spending time at the Tony Bettenhausen Recreation Center walking the track and then visiting with his friends, sharing stories, and snacking on donuts.Tom was preceded in death by his parents, his older brother Chuck and his wife Dorothy, his sister Janet, and his sister-in-law Barbara.

Services will be held on Wednesday, January 10th, from 9am-noon at Maher Funeral Home in Tinley Park, 17101 71st Avenue.  There will be a short service at noon followed by a luncheon for those who can attend.
