September 10, 1945 — January 25, 2023
Stephen T. "Steve" Vrtis, age 77, U.S. Marine Corps CPL E4 Vietnam Veteran and Retired Chicago Police Officer. Beloved husband of Guiyang "Jenny" nee Huang. Loving father of Thomas (Nicole) Vrtis and Michelle (Kenneth) Prosser and step-father of Junhua (Yirong Ou) Diao. Cherished grandfather of Abigail, Emily and Oscar. Dear brother of Joseph Vrtis, Tim Vrtis, Barbara Allerton, Jeff Vrtis, Mark Vrtis and the late Bill Vrtis and Bernice Vrtis. Fond uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Steve retired from the Chicago Police Department after 34 years of service. He loved running in marathons and really enjoyed outdoor activities--especially golfing and skiing.
Visitation Monday, January 30, 2023 from 3-7 p.m. with a Funeral Service to follow at 7:00 p.m. at Colonial Chapel, 15525 S. 73rd Ave. (155th/Wheeler Dr. & Harlem) Orland Park, IL. Interment private at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL.
