Samuel Mckinney

Samuel R. "Sam" McKinney, Sr., age 71, passed away on Sunday, December 15, 2024 at Lightways Hospice in Joliet, IL. Beloved husband for 48 years to Debra A. McKinney, nee Maher. Loving father of Samuel McKinney, Jr. (Amanda). Cherished grandfather of Brandy (Clay) Kmiecik and Roain McKinney. Dearest great-grandfather of Libby, Grant and Kinsley. Devoted son of the late Glen and Lora McKinney. Dear brother of Estil M. (Patricia) McKinney, Kenneth McKinney and the late Carol Cline. Fond brother-in-law of Jean (John) Hojnacki, Joanne Burton, John (Sandy) Maher, James (Sue) Maher, Daniel (Doug Tricker) Maher, Therese Magden, Matthew (Rachel) Maher and the late Thomas Maher. Dear uncle of many nieces and nephews.

Born at home in Stephenson, West Virginia, Sam and his family moved to Chicago when he was five. He loved animals, especially dogs, and at one time had numerous guinea pigs while living with his parents. Sam was a drummer and played in a country band. He also worked at Boyle Midway/American Home Products for many years and then went on disability retirement. During his retirement he planted a vegetable garden and several flower gardens.

Visitation Thursday, December 19, 2024 from 3-8PM. Funeral Friday, December 20, 2024 at 9:15AM from Colonial Chapel 15525 S. 73rd Ave. (155th/Wheeler Dr & Harlem Ave.) Orland Park, IL to St Julie Billiart Church. Mass 10:00AM. Interment Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside, IL.
