Robert Frank Smitko, age, 85, of Orland Park, IL passed away on December 4, 2024. Born on May 22, 1939, Robert, affectionately known as Bob, graduated from Kelly High School and furthered his education at the University of Illinois.
Bob's career as a Chief Vibrational Engineer with Wrigley Corporation was marked by his significant contributions setting up plants in Russia, India, and China. His professional journey was characterized by a blend of technical expertise and creative problem-solving. An artist at heart, Bob possessed a brilliant, creative, and intelligent mind complemented by a great sense of humor. His artistic inclinations were not just confined to his career but also extended into his personal life.
Bob was a skilled woodworker and wood carver, a passionate flamenco guitarist, and a jazz enthusiast. His love for movies, sports cars, and mechanical engineering, especially related to John Deere tractors, defined his diverse interests. Bob was also known for his love for animals, being a friend of dogs and raccoons everywhere.
Bob leaves behind his beloved wife of 64 years, Judith Smitko; his daughter Catherine, his son Vash, his granddaughter Brianna Kozlarek and her husband Brandon, and his great-grandson Henry James. He was a cherished figure in his family, and his legacy of love, creativity, and humor will live on through them. Bob's life was a testament to his multifaceted personality, leaving a lasting impact on everyone he encountered. His contributions to his field and his community, as well as his dedication to his hobbies and family, will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
