Robert L. "Bob" Flutman, age 99, WWII US Army Air Force Veteran. Beloved husband for 68 years to the late Alyda M. Flutman, nee Klemp (2014). Loving father of Robert A. (Jean) Flutman, Sandra (Owen) Huizenga and Debra (Robert) Dykstra. Cherished grandfather of 10. Dearest great-grandfather of 30 and great-great grandfather of one. Dear brother of Kenneth (Carol) Flutman. Fond brother-in-law of Joann (Jacob) Westra and the late Martha (late Harold) Vloedman. Dear uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Bob was born and raised in Chicago. At the age of 18 he was drafted into the Army Air Corp and was sent overseas during WW2. He served in North Africa and Italy as a radio operator directing planes where to drop their bombs. After the war he married the love of his life, Alyda. After several years they moved to Oak Lawn where they continued to raise their three children. He had several jobs but evenually became a life insurance salesman. It was a vocation he loved and thrived at.
Bob loved the Lord and spent much of his time the last two years of his life sharing the gospel with the residents and staff of the Veterans home where he was living. He died peacefully and is now resting in the arms of his beloved Savior, Jesus Christ
Visitation Friday, May 31, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. until time of Funeral Service 10:30 a.m. at Colonial Chapel, 15525 S. 73rd Ave. (155th/Wheeler Dr. & Harlem) Orland Park, IL. Committal Service with Military Honors to follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL.
