Richard "Dickie" Howell

September 3, 1957 — October 2, 2026

Richard “Dickie” Howell, age 69, of Nova, Ohio, passed away on October 2, 2026. He was born in Oak Park, Illinois, and grew up in Chicago. He was the beloved son of the late George and the late Evelyn (née Reidy) Howell.

Richard graduated from the Illinois School for the Deaf in 1977. He was deeply devoted to the Deaf community and was an esteemed member of various Deaf clubs throughout his life, serving for many years as a board member and often taking a leadership role. He helped bring people together through community activities and found great joy in camping trips, picnics, bowling, and the many tournaments, including softball and his favorite, cornhole. He especially valued the camaraderie and time spent with friends.

He worked for the U.S. Postal Service and later retired from First Funding Insurance in Northbrook, Illinois, after 15 years as a customer service representative.

Richard loved gadgets, especially his GoPro cameras and his drone, “The Deaf Owl.” He enjoyed sharing his videos capturing memorable moments and offering a different perspective on the world around him.

A devoted Chicago sports fan, Richard never lost his allegiance to his hometown teams, especially the Bears and Cubs. He cheered them on with enthusiasm through every season.

Those left to cherish Richard’s memory include his beloved wife, Linda (née Allen), of more than 22 years; his children, Wesley (Michelle) Howell and Courtney (Zach) Klatt; his grandson, Kellan Howell; and his siblings, Margaret Howell, George (Patricia) Howell, Deborah (Allan) Millard, Edward (Shawna) Howell, and Barbara (Dave) Thomas. Richard was a fond uncle to many nieces and nephews and a dear son-in-law and brother-in-law. His beloved pets also held a special place in his heart, bringing him companionship and happiness.

Richard will also be deeply missed by his many friends, whom he considered family. Those lasting friendships brought him laughter and a lifetime of wonderful memories.
