Phyllis M. Lawler (née Hausmann), a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2024, in Orland Park, IL, at the age of 92. Born in Chicago, IL, in 1932, Phyllis lived a life rich with love, passion, and dedication.
Phyllis' love for animals was a defining aspect of her life. Alongside the love of her life, Richard, they raised and showed Paso Fino horses, sharing countless cherished moments together. Her affection for goats was equally profound, and she was renowned for her exceptional goat cheese-making skills. Phyllis' rescue dog, Benny, held a special place in her heart, embodying her lifelong compassion for animals.
An accomplished artist, Phyllis was an incredible quilter and prolific crocheter, creating beautiful pieces that will be treasured for generations. Her creativity and talent were matched by her generosity and kindness, which she extended to all who knew her.
Phyllis is survived by her loving children: Gregory Messer (Lora), Mary Secord (Ross Feithen), Richard Lawler (Bob Nielsen), Michael Lawler, Peggy DeSalvo (late husband Randy DeSalvo), Maureen Gardner (Paul), and Deanna Rolence (John). She was the proud grandmother of Melissa, Andrew, Jonathon, Emily, Rosemary, Nicholas, John, Michael, Samantha (James), Sydney (Michael), Harrison (Christiana), Rebecca, Reneé (Bryan), Maggie (Raymond), Katie (Michael), Brandon, Tessa (Jeff), Aaron, Brittany, Paul, John, and Kayleigh, and a great-grandmother to many.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Lawler, and her children Norman Messer, Kathryn Stice, and Susan Patterson, as well as her siblings Kathryn Hausmann, Herman Hausmann, and Dorothy Lupescu.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Phyllis' life at All Saints Lutheran Church, 13350 S. LaGrange Road, Orland Park, IL, on Friday, May 24, 2024. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, followed by a Memorial Service at 10:00 AM. A private interment will take place at Maplewood Cemetery in New Lenox.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Tender Loving Care Animal Shelter, 13016 W. 151st St., Homer Glen, IL, in honor of Phyllis's enduring love for animals.
Phyllis will be remembered for her warm heart, her dedication to family, and her unwavering love for the animals she cared for. Her legacy of compassion and kindness will forever be cherished by all who knew her.
