Peter A. Boersma, age 88, U.S. Army Veteran. Beloved husband for 65 years to Margretta "Mardie" Boersma, nee Van Vossen. Loving father of Dennis (Debora) Boersma, Patricia (Jeffrey) Hanson and William (fianceé Debbie) Boersma. Cherished Gramps of Katherine (Roger) Johnson, Anna (Charlie) Chrystal and Jacob Boersma. Dearest great-grandfather of Riley Hanson-Chrystal, Harper Johnson and Kallie Johnson. Devoted son of the late Claus and Catherine (nee Bulthuis) Boersma. Dear brother of the late Clarence "Sonny" Boersma.
Pete grew up on a small family farm in Worth, IL. His family moved to Oak Lawn, IL when he was a teen and he lived there until he was married. He graduated from Roseland Christian Grammar School and Blue Island High School (now Eisenhower High School). During his high school years, Pete began working for A&P as a meat cutter. He would continue working at A&P for 33 years until the company left the Chicago area. While working at A&P, Pete took a two year leave and joined the Army. He trained at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO and then spent 18 months in Schweinfurt, Germany. After Pete retired from A&P, he was employed in the maintenance departments at Christ Hospital for seven years and then Oak Lawn School Dist. 123 for 13 years. Upon retirement, Pete and Mardie moved to Frankfort, IL.
Visitation Sunday, March 9, 2025 from 2-5 p.m. with a Funeral Service to follow at 5:00 p.m. at Colonial Chapel, 15525 S. 73rd Ave. (155th/Wheeler Dr. & Harlem) Orland Park, IL. Interment with Military Honors on Monday, March 10, 2025 at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL. Please arrive at the cemetery by 9:20 a.m.
