Paul R. Fitzpatrick, age 28, precious son of James and Joyce (nee Bedier) Fitzpatrick. Loving brother of Kelsey. Beloved companion of Jen Scanlon. Cherished grandson of Linda Bedier. Dear nephew of Robert (Geri) Fitzpatrick, John (Marianne) Fitzpatrick, Mary Ann (Ray) White and Diane (Art) Paolini. Dearest cousin and friend of many.
Paul was a lovable and loving young man. He had an easy bright big smile that welcomed all. He was known and loved by others because he had a gentle, kind, and thoughtful spirit. He treated everyone with dignity and respect and had many different friends from all walks of life.
In his too brief life, Paul accomplished so much. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry at DePaul University and a Doctorate of Pharmacy from Rosiland Franklin University. He did a residency at Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey, IL, which led to him being hired as the first Emergency Department pharmacist at Ingalls. He started during the COVID pandemic and immersed himself with the other heroes in the ED, saving many lives. He always showed compassion to his patients and was generous of his time and knowledge with co-workers. He was an excellent baker and was often known to bring treats to share with his co-workers. One of the many accolades that was shared with his family came from an ED physician he worked with; “He was incredible at his job, he was so polite, and the ED team loved him”.
He also enjoyed teaching others, volunteering, and giving presentations to pharmacy students at Chicago State. At Ingalls he was a preceptor, mentor and leader for the pharmacy residency program. He also worked part-time at Loyola Medical Center in their main pharmacy.
In addition to his being an outstanding pharmacist, Paul was an enthusiastic weightlifter and a fantastic cook. It was amazing to see how creative he was in the kitchen, taking a simple rice dish and making it into a taste extravaganza. If he wasn’t working, he could be found at the gym lifting weights, or spending time with his partner and soon-to-be fiancé, Jen Scanlon. Paul and Jen loved sandy beaches and walking their two miniature dachshunds.
He was involved in many activities during this younger life as a boy scout, swim and polo teams, marching band and volunteering for church activities including a homeless shelter.
