Patricia Thomson

March 17, 1933 — April 8, 2023

Patricia S. Thomson, 90, passed away on Saturday, April 8, 2023 at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital, in Downers Grove, Illinois. Patricia (Pat) passed into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, where she is now at peace and rest. Patricia Susanne Kirkland was born on March 17, 1933 in Chicago IL, to George N. and Susan M. (Gould) Kirkland. She was the youngest of 3 children – Margretta May, William George, and Patricia Susanne. Since she was born on St. Patrick’s Day, her Irish grandfather, George Gould, persuaded her parents to name her “Patricia.” Patricia was raised in Chicago in a happy, Christ-centered home where the Bible was acknowledged as the Word of God, and the Lord Jesus Christ was worshipped as the living Son of God, and Savior.

Patricia trained at Evangelical Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in 1954, becoming a professional registered nurse in Illinois and Indiana. She served at a number of hospitals in the Chicago and Northern Indiana area over the 40-plus years of her nursing career - including the University of Illinois Hospital, Little Company of Mary, Ingalls Memorial, St. James Hospital, Belmont Community Hospital, and Community Hospital in Munster, IN. In addition, she cared for numerous patients as a private duty nurse. Pat used her profession to serve the Lord, by serving and comforting others through nursing care. It was her life’s passion to help and care for others. She ministered to people, believing that, in “giving a cup of water” in His name, she served both people, and her Lord.

On April 7, 1956, Patricia was united in marriage with Peter B. Thomson, and to them were born 4 sons, John, Edward, Mark, and Paul, and they raised their family in Dolton, IL. They enjoyed Christian fellowship, worship, and service at Lansing Gospel Chapel in Lansing, IL.

Patricia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Peter, in December of 2022, and previously by her sister Margretta, and her brother William George. She is survived by her four sons, John (Deborah) Thomson of Woodridge, IL; Edward (Betsy) Thomson of Oak Forest, IL; Mark (Lisa) of Springfield, IL; and Paul (Mary Rose) of Venice, FL; six grandchildren, Scott, Anna (Kyle), Nathan, David, Zachary (Morgan), and Matthew; and four great-grandchildren, Jaxon, Maddox, Ian, and Ezra.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until time of the Funeral Service at 12:00 Noon, at Colonial Chapel, 15525 S. 73rd Ave. (155th/Wheeler Dr. & Harlem Ave.) Orland Park, IL. Interment at Chapel Hill Gardens South, Oak Lawn, IL.
