Michael S. Kaup, A kind and soft-spoken man who found his greatest joy in being a husband, father, and grandpa, passed away on October 18, 2025, surrounded by love from his daughters, at the age of 70.
In his early twenties, Michael proudly served as a paramedic and fireman in Burbank, Illinois—a reflection of his lifelong desire to help others and his calm, steady nature in any situation.
Michael’s life was defined by his devotion to his family. He treasured every moment with his daughters and grandchildren, turning ordinary routines into lasting memories. Each day, he drove his daughters to and from school—creating moments of connection and conversation. He loved taking them bike riding, to the pool, to the movies, and on fun father-daughter adventures through The Y-Indian Princesses. In the winter, he even built an ice rink in their backyard so they could skate together—small gestures that reflected his endless patience, creativity, and love.
He adored spending time with his grandchildren at the park, going to the library, walking the dogs, and enjoying the companionship of every dog he met. They seemed to sense his gentle, kind nature, and in nearly every photo, a happy dog—or two, or three—was right beside him. He loved animals deeply and could never have enough pets in his life.
Michael also loved to build things—whether it was model cars, projects around the house, or something for his family—his hands were always creating. He loved to dress nicely, often wearing a suit on Christmas and a favorite tie for special occasions. Music was another joy in his life—especially Phil Collins, Chicago, ABBA, Norah Jones, and Fleetwood Mac. He enjoyed boats, hot rods, and every chance to make the people around him smile.
But above all, his greatest joy came from the laughter and love of the people closest to him. He was endlessly patient, loving, gentle, and kind—the kind of dad who would smile and help with anything you asked, always putting his family first in everything he did.
He is survived by his wife, Susan; his daughters, Laurie (Chris), Katie (Dan), and Alexandra (Nick); and his eight beloved grandchildren. He also leaves behind his dog, Sadie, along with the many other dogs who adored him.
His memory will live on in the laughter of his grandchildren, the wagging tails of his dogs, and the hearts of all who loved him. Though he is no longer with us, the love that surrounded him in his final moments and the countless memories he created with his family will remain—a comforting presence in our hearts and a reminder of the joy he brought to every day.

“When destiny calls you, you must be strong.
I may not be with you, but you’ve got to hold on.
’Cause you’ll be in my heart. Believe me, you’ll be in my heart.
I’ll be there, from this day on, now and forever more.”
