Martin Phee

March 17, 1934 — April 20, 2016

Martin J. Phee, M.D., age 82, of Orland Park, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, April 20, 2016, from Parkinson's Disease. He is survived by his loving wife of 14 years, Sharon (Leschin) Phee. Marty was preceded in death in 1990 by his first wife, Mary Catherine "Kate" Phee, whom he married in 1960. Kate was the mother of his beloved four daughters, Mary Catherine "Molly", Sarah, Amy, and Margaret "Meg" Phee. Marty also found joy with his three stepchildren, Kenneth (Donna), Tony (deceased), and Tracey Leschin; sisters Patricia Phee and Elizabeth Martin (Waights); seven nieces and nephews and a dozen great nieces and nephews. Marty was born in Chicago on March 17, 1934 and took special pride in sharing his birthday with St. Patrick's Day. He graduated from Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine in 1959 and did his residency at Cook County Hospital. He served as a Captain in the U.S. Army, including an assignment as director of the base hospital in Fort Monmouth, NJ during the Vietnam War. After returning to Chicago, he grew a thriving private practice in internal medicine, serving as Chief of Medicine at Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park. Cherished by patients and colleagues alike for his empathy, Marty served as a mentor and friend to many in the hospital community. He was renowned for his curiosity and his eclectic interests in music, travel, science fiction and anything with a motor in it. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, June 18, 2016, at Our Lady of the Woods Parish, 10731 W. 131st St., Orland Park, IL 60462 (708-361-4754). Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. A Funeral Mass will begin at 10:00 a.m. with a reception to follow at Silver Lake Country Club.
