Martin F. "Marty" Ozinga

November 20, 1941 — April 27, 2026

Martin F. “Marty” Ozinga of Palos Heights, IL passed away at the age of 84 on April 27, 2026.

Marty was born on November 20, 1941 in Evergreen Park, IL. He graduated from the University of Illinois with a bachelor’s degree in physical education and later earned his master’s degree in educational administration and throughout college he served simultaneously in the Air Force Reserves. His career began in education before moving into the travel industry and later into banking.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sally Ozinga, whom he married on November 18, 1989. Together they shared a love of travel and gardening, spending many years exploring the world and tending their gardens side by side.

Marty’s love of sports began as a young boy playing baseball and continued throughout his life. He went on to teach physical education and coached numerous teams during his years in education. In later years, he enjoyed playing in softball leagues with friends and coworkers and he remained a lifelong, avid golfer - always paying special attention to the mental side of the game. He was a loyal Illini fan and rooted for all Chicago sports teams, but especially the Cubs. His wry sense of humor entertained his family and friends, and his siblings, children, and grandchildren will repeat his many “Martyisms” for years to come.

Marty is survived by his daughters, Laurie (Henry) Kamp, Kristen (Jeff) McConnell; his grandchildren, Andrew (Hannah) Kamp, Carly Kamp, Madison Kamp, Holden McConnell, and Claudia McConnell; his siblings, Wilma (Richard) Molenhouse, Ronald (Sharon) Ozinga, Janice (William) Hoffman, Marcia (Paul) Hite; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ginny (late Gary) Just, Randy (Ann) Smits, Roger (Mary) Smits, and Marsha (late Patrick) Goffard and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his parents Frank and Grace Ozinga.
