Louise Hofstra passed away peacefully in her sleep in Omaha, Nebraska on September 27, 2022 at the age of 97. Louise was born on January 16, 1925 to John and Agnes Huisenga at home on the farm in Evergreen Park, IL. She was the 5th of six children born to John and Agnes. She attended Evergreen Park Christian School and graduated from Chicago Christian High School in 1943. After graduation she worked at a bank until marrying John P. Hofstra on August 20, 1948. Louise and John lived in the Roseland area before purchasing their home in Evergreen Park in 1954. During their marriage, Louise was a homemaker, caring for their 3 children, Robert, Lois and Alice. After her husband John’s death in 1982, Louise moved to Orland Park in 1984 and started working part time at the Orland Park Library. In 2013 she moved to Peace Village in Palos Park and later moved to Omaha, Nebraska in 2019 where she was a resident of Bickford Cottage Assisted Living until her death. Her hobbies included quilting, knitting, crocheting, and tatting. She enjoyed playing Scrabble her entire adult life and was still a formidable opponent in the last year of her life.
Louise is survived by daughters Lois Vander Tuin (Wayne) and Alice Hofstra, daughter in-law Betty Hofstra, six grandchildren, 11 great grand children and sister Joanee Venhuizen. She was preceded in death by parents John and Agnes Huisenga, husband John, son Robert, and four brothers and sisters (Gertrude Block, Martha Kuiper, Martin Huisenga, and Ruth Teune).
The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, October 8, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until time of Memorial Service 11:00 a.m. at Colonial Chapel, 15525 S. 73rd Ave. (155th/Wheeler Dr. & Harlem) Orland Park, IL. Interment was private at Evergreen Cemetery, Evergreen Park, Illinois.
