Lola M. Husayko, nee Christy, 101 years old, beloved wife of 59 years to the late Maurice “Moose” Husayko (2005). Loving mother of Bob (Elaine) and Ed (Robin). Cherished grandmother of Christy (Ruben) Meraz, Diane (Shane) Martin, and Kailin (Brian Alexander) Husayko. Adored great-grandmother of Madison and Paige Martin; Henry and Oliver Alexander. Dear sister of the late Sue (the late Burton) McKee. Fond sister-in-law of the late Sophie Orich, the late Walter (the late Rosalie), and the late Joseph (the late Anna). Dear aunt of Carol (the late Bill) Bartlett, Paul (the late Sue) Orich, the late James (Karen) Husayko, and Jay Husayko. Treasured great aunt to many.
Born in Bloomfield, IA in 1923, Lola moved to Chicago in 1944 and met and married Maurice in 1945. Affectionately known to one another as “Short” and “Moose,” they shared a wonderful marriage, filled with love and happiness. They effortlessly expanded their circle of welcoming and warmth as children, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, in-laws, and countless friends came into their lives. Lola was known for her ability to strike up a conversation with anyone, particularly about football, Democratic politics, and cooking—her deviled eggs and chocolate chip cookies were the first to disappear at any party. Her special affection for her granddaughters shone through as she sat in the front row at countless band concerts, basketball games, and music performances, and they treasured having her with them for so many of their adult milestones, always dressed to the nines.
