Leona Szarmack

Leona "Lee" M. Szarmack (nee Ellickson) age 88, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2022. Lee was the beloved wife of the late Richard Szarmack (1985) and the loving mother of Carolyn (David) Mikos, Stephen (Deborah) Szarmack, and Adrienne (Christopher) Smith. Cherished grandmother of Brandon, Lindsey, Matthew, Nicholas, Graham and Zoe. Beloved daughter of the late Benjamin and Margaret. Dear sister of the late Shirley Pierce and late Richard Ellickson.

Lee loved spending time with her grandchildren and getting together for birthdays, holidays and special occasions. Lee was an avid reader and night owl and enjoyed watching cooking shows and travel programs. She lost her life partner at an early age in 1985 which greatly impacted her life. Rejoining the work force in her 50s, she subsequently found employment in Chicago and took the train into the Loop on a daily basis for many years. Lee had a dry sense of humor and led an independent life well into her 80s.

Visitation is on Friday, May 13, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 Noon at Colonial Chapel, 15525 S. 73rd Ave. (155th/Wheeler Dr. & Harlem) Orland Park, IL.

Burial will be private at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Alsip, IL.
