Judith "Judy" Dykstra

Judith Ann (Terwiel) Dykstra, age 82, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2025 in Naples, Florida.

Judith, known as Judy by most, was born on April 28, 1943 in Roseland, Illinois to the late Theresa (VanderMeer) and the late Nicholas John Terwiel. Her life was marked by her faith in God, her love of family and friends, and her thoughtfulness towards others. These qualities left a lasting mark on all who knew her.

Judy’s life was filled with love, laughter, and her cherished family. She married John Anthony Dykstra of Englewood, Illinois on September 6, 1963. Together, they created a family with their two children, Kim (Chris) DeFily and Karen (Steve) Hutfilz. She was immensely proud of her six grandchildren, Amanda (Tommy), Nick, Jordan, Jim, Jenna, and Jake, and her two great-grandchildren, Grayson and Carter, each of whom she adored beyond measure. She also enjoyed spending time with her sister and brother-in-law, Eileen and Harry Meier of Naperville, Illinois, and she was a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Until her passing, Judy worked as a hairdresser. She began her career in 1974, working out of her home; then, working at a couple salons. In her later years, she went back to welcoming clients in her home. She had a way of making everyone in her chair feel beautiful and special.

Upon retirement, Judy loved relaxing, alongside her husband, with their many friends in Florida and Illinois. One of Judy’s favorite activities was watching boats in Bayview Park in Naples, but it did not matter what they were doing, Judy just enjoyed everyone’s company.

Judy will be remembered for her faithful devotion to her Lord and Savior. She was often found with a Bible in her hand, and she could be heard singing in the church choir on a weekly basis.

Although Judy has been called home, the stories, the singing, and the love she shared will continue to echo throughout our lives. As we say goodbye to Judith Ann Dykstra, we do so with gratitude for the time we shared with her, for the memories we shaped together, for her warmth, her kindness, her steadfast faith, and for the mark she made on every life she touched.

Judy’s life will be celebrated on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at Colonial Chapel, 15525 73rd Ave., (155th/Wheeler Dr. & Harlem) Orland Park, Illinois with a visitation from 9:00 – 11:00 am and a service to celebrate Judy's life to follow at 11:00 am.
