John C. Hanlon, 95, was born on 12/25/1929 in Chicago, IL and died peacefully on 1/17/25 in Tinley Park, IL with his wife of 69 years and family at his side. John (Jack) is survived by wife Elizabeth (Betty), brother Gerald (Marge), children Colleen (Len), Maureen (William), Michael (Joanne), and Therese (Ron), 10 grandchildren - Kevin, Amanda, Kelli, Dustin, Michael, Jennifer, Katie, Ryan, Carolyn, and Emily, and 19 great grandchildren - Isabel, Jorge, Genevieve, Theodore, Hailey, Hunter, Presley, Clara, Joseph, Zoe, Harper, Jack, Faith, Grace, Jace, Charlie, Hope, Abigail, and Baby Girl due in March, as well as many nieces and nephews with whom he kept in regular contact. Predeceased by parents James and Anna Hanlon and brother, James Hanlon.
John was a Korean conflict army veteran and proud member of American Legion Post 615. He worked at Commonwealth Edison for 40 years starting as a meter reader and ending up as a procedures analyst, retiring early to travel the world.
John was a very active participant in local organizations including St. Christopher Church, St. James Hospital, Greenview Townhomes, and health and fitness programs. He was an accomplished gardener, avid reader and had many creative outlets including ceramics and crosstitch.
He loved his friends and "extended" family - the La La group. Jack and Betty never missed a social function, and were often the first to arrive, ready to dance – no one could Jitterbug like Jack. He enjoyed learning new things, and was always on the go. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by many.
