On July 8, 2025, our dear Mom, Jeannette “Jean” Fay Metzler’s (nee Michel) soul has taken flight, at the age of 89. Beloved wife of the late William G. Metzler; brother of the late George W. Michel; mother of the late Lori J. (Scott) Gloodt; preceded in death by her parents, George “Bud” and Alice (nee Wilkinson) Michel; devoted mother of Michelle F. Metzler (Chad Tomek), William G. (Mary) Metzler, II, and Sheri J. (David) Holler; Grandmother to Jenna, Holly, Thomas, Charlie, Jack, Danny, Katie, Bill III, Elizabeth, Jake, Cody, Samantha and Colin; Great Grandmother to Olivia, Oliver, Reign, Vynn, Bryce, Dallas and Freya; and a treasured aunt, cousin and friend to many.

Jean was born in Chicago and moved to Palos Heights, IL, in her teens. She graduated from Lyons Township High School in 1953, and worked at Ford Motor Company where she met her soon to be husband. While raising 4 children, she was a room mother, den mother, and girl scout leader. She went to work for the Orland Park School District 135, starting out as a file clerk at Orland Center (1972), she served at the PTA president from 1972-1974, then in 1976 she became acting secretary to Mr. Cullen, the Superintendent, and the school secretary for Mr. James Callahan at Prairie School until she retired in 2004. We were a family who loved vacations. For Jean and Bill’s 31st Anniversary, their children sent them to Maui and Oahu. From that point on, one month every summer was spent on Maui. After her husband passed away, Jean began crocheting hats for children; over the years these hats, several thousand, have been donated to the Village of Orland Park Food Bank, Sward School, Prairie School, and a Ukrainian Agency associated with All Saints Lutheran Church in Orland Park. Jean was also an avid reader, attending book fairs around Cook County, IL, and in St. Charles County, MO, and cities in between; over the years she read over 1,000 books.

She was dearly loved and will be missed by so many. We sure had some good times; imagining you and Dad reunited makes our hearts joyful! What a glorious reunion that will be! Her spirit will forever live in the hearts of those who loved her and called her friend.

Service will be private.
