James E. Altman, age 73, of Tinley Park, IL, passed away on Friday, September 5, 2025. Jim was diagnosed with mesothelioma in 2021. He fought a long, hard journey with this disease until he had no fight left in him.
Jim is survived by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 55 1/2 years Trudy Altman. He was a proud father to Kimberly Kaucky, Jennifer (Brian) Crowl, and Susan (Bob) Davis. A cherished, fun loving papa to Kristina, Kyle, Max, Katelyn, Stella and Joey. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Margaret Altman. Adored son-in-law of the late Gertrude Maxwell. Brother to Marge Montelongo. Admired brother-in-law to Jim and Janet Maxwell and Greta Kozar, along with many that have preceded him in death. Unforgettable uncle and great-uncle to many.
Jim was a proud life-long member of Boilermakers Local One. Prior to becoming ill, Jim enjoyed camping, boating, car shows, his hot rod, and spending time with his family. Oh, by the way, to make a short story longer, he was often referred to as "the most interesting man in the world, " "the man, the myth, the legend," and "Mr. Fix-it."
For those that knew him, he will be greatly missed for his endless knowledge, priceless advice and uncanny wit.
