Herbert W. "Herb" Anderson, age 83, of Tinley Park, IL, passed away on Thursday, November 6, 2025. He was born on October 23, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Ann (nee Hanley), and his mother Gertrude Hansen Anderson, as well as many cherished friends and family. He was a devoted father to Theresa Anderson, Jill (Wes) Anderson, and Herb (Maura) Anderson.
He was a wise grandfather to Patrick Malinak, Bob (Tiffany) Malinak, Jordan Swanson, Maren Anderson, Ian Anderson, Jackson Anderson, and Lily Anderson. He was great-grandfather to Zoey Malinak, Cambria Malinak, Axton Malinak, and Emma Malinak. He was a beloved uncle and family member to many.
Herb spent his career working for Sears as an appliance repairman, and if you ever had a washer, fridge, or stove that needed saving, chances are Herb could bring it back to life. He had a knack for tinkering and loved figuring out how things worked — usually in his garage surrounded by a pile of tools, spare parts, and a can of beer.
When he wasn’t fixing something, Herb was happiest outdoors. He loved camping, casting a line into a quiet lake, and heading out on hunting trips with friends. The water and the woods were his favorite places to be, and he always had a story (and usually a few fish tales) to share when he got back.
He always credited Mary Ann, as well as her family, and his time at Glenwood School for Boys for shaping him into the man he became. He was a proud member of the Woodenshoe Rainmakers Camping Club and the Oak Park Sportsmen's Club.
He’ll be deeply missed by his family and friends, who will forever cherish the laughter, lessons, and love he shared. In his own words, “It was a good ride.”
A celebration of Herb’s life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Salvation Army. In his honor, the family suggests spending a little extra time outdoors, fixing something instead of throwing it away, or sharing a good story around a campfire — just the way Herb would have liked it.
