Helen Rose Warmke

September 17, 1915 — August 11, 2010

Helen Rose Warmke, nee Hier, 94 years and 11 months young, beloved wife of the late Joseph F. Devoted and feisty mother of Joe, Jean (Robert) Gill, Larry, and Don. Proud grandmother of Robert S. Gill. Loving daughter of the late Frank and Anna Hier. Fond sister of the late Mary (Henry) Vondrak. Loving aunt to Frank, Richard (Mary) and Robert Vondrak, Betty (Tim) Bowler, and Edward (Lisa) Warmke. Great aunt of many nieces and nephews. A woman of many talents, Helen was a terrific homemaker and baker. She was the bookkeeper for Universal Siding and Roofing for 60 years—a business established by her husband Joseph and expanded by her sons Joe and Larry. With her husband and sons, Helen bought, sold, and managed many acres of farm property. She traveled worldwide, but when asked what she enjoyed most, she inevitably responded “talking and getting to know the people from everywhere.” An avid gardener, Helen always had a thriving garden. Many plants were given to her by friends. She nurtured and cherished them all and often related to others the stories of who had given them to her. Helen was also an active member of both the Beverly Women’s Club and the Orland Park Women’s Club for many years until both clubs officially ended. She also volunteered and organized donations days for the Salvation Army for many years particularly in the mall at 143rd and LaGrange. Helen was always a people person. She could talk to anyone about almost anything. She shared abundantly with others but lived a frugal life herself. She was a good friend to everyone she knew.
