Gregory Steve Matusky, born January 28, 1955, passed away June 8, 2026, at the age of 71.
Greg was a Chicago man through and through; shaped by the city, steadied by his years of service in the United States Army, and built for hard work. He spent the better part of his career as a proud Boilermaker, a trade that suited a man who understood exactly how things worked and why they mattered. Over the course of that career, he mentored dozens of people, and not because it was required of him, but because that was simply who he was.
In retirement, Greg traded the midwest for the wide open west. He landed first in Boulder City outside of Las Vegas before finding his truest fit in Cal Nev Ari, Nevada — a small desert town built around a runway, which suited him just fine. Greg was a private pilot, and flying wasn't a hobby so much as a calling. The sky was where he made sense of things.
But Greg never really stopped working, because Greg never really stopped. He was the kind of man who was always in the middle of something — fixing an engine, building something from nothing, lending a hand to a neighbor who needed one. He loved mechanics in every form they took. He loved panning for gold in the desert, exploring the back roads, and shooting with his family under the open sky. He was endlessly curious, endlessly useful, and almost impossible to keep still.
To the people he loved, he had a simple way of letting them know they'd done good: "good show, kiddo." Those words followed his children through their whole lives. And when the time came to say goodbye, his son returned them to him.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; his siblings Mike and Audrey; his children John, Andrea, Ray, and Marilyn; his grandchildren Aaliyah, Savannah, Shelby, RJ, and Oliver; and a beloved circle of nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren who knew exactly how lucky they were.
Greg Matusky lived fully and on his own terms. The desert will be quieter without him. Good show, Greg.
