Gerald “Jerry” Prendergast II, age 62, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family and friends.
Beloved son of Ann Marie (née Hanley) and Gerald (Yvonne Del Principe) Prendergast. Loving brother of Kelly (Bob) Whitlock, Colleen (Brian) Brady, and Michael (Kristen) Prendergast. Cherished stepbrother of Jessica (Mike) McCarihan and Kristen (Mike) Vanier. Proud uncle of Amy, Brian, Lauren, Katie, Chrissie, Dennis, Luke, Morgan, Owen, Lucy, Evan, Colin, Quinn, Charlie and great uncle to many.
Jerry was also the beloved nephew, cousin, and friend to many. He shared a special lifelong bond with his cousins Theresa and Jill, who were his very first friends and remained dear to his heart throughout his life.
He was reunited in Heaven with his beloved grandparents, cherished family and friends who undoubtedly welcomed him home with open arms.
Jerry was born in San Antonio, Texas, while his father was serving in the military. He grew up on Chicago’s South Side on Racine Avenue before the family settled in Evergreen Park. He attended District 124 schools and was a proud graduate of Brother Rice High School, Class of 1982. The friendships and memories he made during those years stayed with him throughout his life.
After being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in early 2000, Jerry chose to make Las Vegas, Nevada, his home, where the warm desert climate brought him comfort and relief from Chicago’s winters. Though miles away, Chicago always remained home in his heart.
Jerry found joy in life’s simple pleasures and never met a stranger. He had a remarkable ability to connect with people from every walk of life, leaving behind many loyal friends who were touched by his kindness, easy smile, and genuine heart. His quiet strength, resilience, quick wit, and deep love for his family will be remembered always.
The Prendergast family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses, physicians, and staff at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center for the compassionate care, dignity, and kindness they showed Jerry throughout his final days.
May his gentle soul rest in eternal peace.
