George J. Stech

George J. Stech, age 82, beloved husband of Margaret L. Stech (née Lentz) for 61 years, passed away peacefully.

Born and raised on the south side of Chicago, George was proud of his hometown and was a lifelong Chicago Blackhawks fan. He worked at Hillman’s Food Stores for nearly 20 years and Rose Packing Company for more than 30 years, where he was known for his strong work ethic and dedication. A quiet man by nature, George wasn’t one for many words, but his family always knew they could count on him. He also devoted many years of service to the Boy Scouts of America, where he enjoyed mentoring young people and giving back to his community.

He was the loving father of Jim (the late Maribeth) Stech, Beth Ann (Larry) Martin, and Jean (Scott) Barlev; proud grandfather of Krystyn (Stawros) Stefanu, Jenna (Caleb) Dutton, Jacob Barlev, John Martin, and Zachary Barlev; and cherished great-grandfather of Sophie, Camryn, Kobe, and Aiden. He was preceded in death by his sister, April (Ron) Dydas, and his brother-in-law, Al (the late Carol) Lentz.

George will be remembered for his quiet strength, hard work, and unwavering dedication to his family. His steady presence, commitment to serving others, and the example he set will be deeply missed.

Visitation Saturday, August 8, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 Noon with a Funeral Service to follow at 12:00 Noon at Colonial Chapel, 15525 S. 73rd Ave. (155th/Wheeler Dr. & Harlem) Orland Park, IL.
