George Devries

George H. DeVries, age 80, went to his heavenly reward on August 22, 2021. Beloved husband of nearly 50 years to Beverly, nee VanderVeer. Loving father of Nancy DeVries, Kristie DeVries, Becky DeVries, Kimberly (Ed) Kawa, and George DeVries, Jr. Cherished grandfather of Eddie and Ellis Kawa. Dear brother of the late Adele DeVries.

You may also know him by his various nicknames: “Red” and “Georgie Good Guy.” Longtime friend to Warreny Wonderful and Rapid Robert. Champion of many youthful shenanigans. Student of Chicago Christian High School. Despite the denial of his request to walk across the stage with his class after not attending school for some time, he became a steady supporter and advocate of the school later in life. Ironically, he usually made it to the class reunion.

George was born in Evergreen Park. He was a general contractor for more than 50 years. He immensely enjoyed working on buildings. His work was his mission: contributing to buildings for Southwest Chicago Christian School, Trinity Christian College, and Faith Christian Reformed Church, as well as other churches. He also built various industrial buildings. He served on a number of boards and committees throughout his life. He was active with ECFA and Gideons, International, among others.

He often extended simple kindness and generosity. If he observed a need he could meet, he met it. He had blessed assurance of his life in Christ. He enjoyed agriculture, classic cars, travel, good music, and many good friends.

Visitation Sunday, August 29, 2021 from 3-7 p.m. at Colonial Chapel 15525 S. 73rd Ave. (155th/Wheeler Dr. & Harlem) Orland Park, IL. Burial is Monday, August 30, 2021, 9:30 a.m. at Fairmount-Willow Hills Cemetery, Willow Springs, IL. Everyone is to meet at the 95th St. & Willow Springs Road (104th Ave.) gate. A Memorial Service to celebrate George's life will be held on Monday, August 30, 2021, 11:00 a.m. at Faith Christian Reformed Church, 8383 W. 171st St., Tinley Park, IL.
