Frank Konecki

April 14, 1934 — June 25, 2023

Frank Jerome Konecki, 89, formerly of Richton Park, IL in his younger years and of Libertyville, IL in his most senior years, bid his final farewell on June 25, 2023 leaving us with a lifetime of memories. Born on April 14, 1934, in the Windy City of Chicago, IL, Frank was a lifelong fan of his two favorite sports teams the Bears and White Sox While we'll miss him dearly, his spirit will forever be with us as we patiently wait another lifetime for a Chicago sports championship.

In addition to his sports fanaticism, Frank was a devoted husband and father, but his favorite position was grandfather. “Poppo” was always ready to tackle any challenge that came his way. He was the quarterback of his family, leading with love and guidance.

In his younger days, Frank answered the call of duty as a US Marine Corps soldier, fearlessly battling in the Korean War. He was a true hero, with a heart as strong as his military resolve. His life’s work was in the steel mills and when retirement from the factory came, he enlisted to be a school bus driver.

When he wasn't in Korea or working long hours at the factory or on duty in his bus, Frank loved to kick back and watch TV. He'd saddle up on the couch from morning till night, immersing himself in the wild adventures of the Old West with John Wayne. When asked if he had any regrets in life, he lamented that his only regret was that he wasn’t born Johnny Weissmuller.

Frank was a proud husband to his beloved late wife Nancy and leaves behind a winning team of loved ones, including his children Kim (Aras), Ken (Margie), Edward, and his MVP grandchildren Nikki (Zack) Brickhouse, Jeff, Kaila (Jackie) Husar, Alex (fiancée Nicole), Sofija, and Viktorija. He also scored two great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Nicole Ty Brickhouse, who will carry on his legacy.

To celebrate Frank's incredible journey, a Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, August 17, 2023 at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 W Hoff Rd, Elwood, IL 60421. After the final whistle blows, we'll gather for a post-game luncheon to share stories, laughter, and maybe even a touchdown dance or two.

Frank will forever be remembered as a true champion of life. His spirit will continue to inspire us as we huddle together, cherishing the memories and celebrating the touchdowns he scored. Rest in peace, Poppo. You've left an indelible mark on the field of our hearts.
