With deep sadness, we share the passing of Evelyn Hawkins, who left us after a courageous and steadfast battle with illness.
Evelyn was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a proud grandmother/great grandmother, and a treasured friend. She will be remembered for her kind heart, generous nature, and unwavering strength. Her resilience, compassion, and selflessness touched the lives of all who knew her.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Walter (“Dan”) Hawkins, and her son, Jeffrey Hawkins. She is survived by her children: Denise (Steve), Wendy (Jim), Walter (Amanda), Debbie (Mike), and Michael.
She was a loving grandmother to James, Nicole, Rebecca, Ashley, Andrew, Anthony, Paige, Sean, Britney, Kaila, Tyler, Haiden, Nathan, Owen, and Nali, and a proud great-grandmother to Baylee, Mason, and Vinny.
Evelyn is also survived by her devoted siblings Phyllis, Kenneth, and Wilda, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
A memorial service will be held in her honor on Friday, May 30, 2025, 3:00 pm – 7:30 pm with a pastoral prayer service at 7:00, at Maher Funeral Home, 17101 S. 71st Ave, Tinley Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Evelyn’s memory to Lightways Hospice and Serious Illness Care in Joliet, IL.
Evelyn will be deeply missed and fondly remembered always.
