Ernest F. Klein, age 92, US Army Veteran, passed away on January 25, 2024. Beloved husband of the late Mary, nee Ellison (2016). Loving father of Karen Klein, Kevin Klein, Kimberly (Mike) Romba and Kristina (David) Maratea. Cherished grandfather of Christopher, Rachael, Nicole, Matthew and the late Patrick. Dearest great-grandfather of Ryland. Devoted son of the late Stephen and Margaret (nee Kiscella) Klein. Dear brother of the late Robert Klein. Fond uncle of Nancy Abbott, Sue Anderson, and the late Steve Klein.
Ernie was a retired structural engineer for many years. His career was marked by his commitment to excellence and his innovative approach to problem solving.
Ernie was a star basketball player at Chicago Vocational High School. He also excelled at baseball, tennis, golf and skiing.
Music was Ernie's true passion, and he found solace and joy in playing the trombone. His love for jazz music was evident to all who knew him, and he and his late wife Mary shared a deep bond over their shared love for jazz. In their younger years, they frequented jazz clubs, creating cherished memories that would last a lifetime.
Ernie's love for nature was another defining aspect of his life. He found great peace at the Indiana and Michigan Dunes. Whether he was taking long walks along the dunes or simply admiring the beauty of the landscape, Ernie's connection to nature was a source of great comfort and inspiration. Ernie and Mary enjoyed biking in the Geneva and St. Charles area along the Fox River.
Ernie will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His warmth, kindness, and unwavering passion for the things he loved will be remembered fondly by the lives he touched.
A service to celebrate Ernie's life will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at 2:30 p.m. at The Wayside Chapel at The Center, 12700 Southwest Hwy, Palos Park, IL.
