Donald Henry Ternes, age 89, cherished husband of 68 years to Jeannine, nee Gambla. Devoted father of Richard "Rick" (Stella), Philip (Margaret), Jenan (Orest) Czuczuk, Paul (Dawn), Sharryn (Jim) Smyth, John and Joseph. Preceded in death by his siblings, Pete (late Laura) and Mary (late Joseph) Sokachitch. Proud grandfather of 25 and many great-grandchildren. Dear brother-in-law of Dr. Ronald (late Margaret) Gambla, Dr. Richard Gambla, Marguerite (late Fred) Trick, Denise (Dr. George) Nicolaides and the late Maryann Gambla and Dr. Gerald Gambla. Fond uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Don was above all a family man. For 68 years, he dedicated himself to his wife, Jeannine, the great and only love of his life. Together they created a large family of which he was very proud. He would have been the first to say his family is his greatest legacy. Don was a loving husband, father, grandfather and
great grandfather, and a kind and generous man to all.
Don was hardworking—He was a great salesman who was loved by his many colleagues and customers for his inexhaustible energy, talent, and perseverance. He worked tirelessly to provide for his family, and he did so with an incomparable sense of humor. Wherever he went he created an atmosphere of joy
around him. That humor never left him to the end of his life.
Don was generous— He was always willing to help others even when times were difficult for him. He was there for his children when they purchased their first houses, sharing both his real estate knowledge and commissions. He repeatedly won awards for “Best Salesman” and didn’t hesitate to share them with others. His children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and their families will always remember him as an example of a good man for whom a good life meant time spent with family.
Don was a devout Catholic—He regularly attended mass and was always active in his parish and his community. He especially loved singing and was a long-time member of his church and community choirs. We will always cherish and enjoy the recordings of him singing the Messiah, How Great Thou Art, and many other works, especially during the holidays.
Don will always live in the hearts and memories of the great family he created, his relatives, and so many friends.
