Donald Holwerda, age 93, born February 4, 1922, went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 29, 2015. WWII U.S. Army SSGT, member of the 33rd Division and Silver Star Recipient for bravery and courage. Beloved husband of the late Ruth A. Holwerda, nee Bandstra (1987). Loving father of Donald (Karen), Linda (Thomas) Sperling, James (Debbie) and Robert (Elaine). Cherished grandfather of 15. Dearest great-grandfather of 21. Dear brother of Catherine Solle and the late Jeanette Van Iddekinge and Sophie Jongsma. Fond uncle of many nieces and nephews. Don faithfully served his church and community most recently volunteering at thrift shops for Bibles and Christian education. Previously served as an elder and deacon at his church and was active on numerous boards of Christian organizations. Visitation Friday, July 31, 2015 from 3-9. Funeral Service Saturday, August 1, 2015, 10:00 a.m. at Colonial Chapel, 15525 S. 73rd Ave. (155th/Wheeler Dr. & Harlem) Orland Park, IL. Interment Chapel Hill Gardens South, Oak Lawn, IL.
