Concordio Flores

Concordio Flores, RN, 85, late of Oak Forest, formerly of South Chicago.  Beloved son of his late parents, Tomas and Leoncia (nee Zarate).  Cherished husband of Aida (nee Guiang).  Devoted father of Andrew (Gina).  Loving brother of; the late Maxima (the late Pablo) Lagatao, the late Justino (the late Rosenda), Marciana (Gregorio) Corrales, Saturnina (the late Daniel) Estrella and Timothy (Amy).  Dearest Lolo of; Alexander, Avery, Isabella, Samuel "Sammy", Andrew and Nicholas.  Fond uncle of many nieces and nephews.  Concordio was a capable nurse for 40 years, and first studied nursing in the Philippines before coming to Chicago via Canada in the 1960's.  He first resided in the South Chicago neighborhood, where he fulfilled his calling to treat the sick, injured and infirm at the University of Chicago Hospital Surgical Unit.  Although in life he was a humble man, he was quite proud of his intensive participation in the first open heart surgery performed at the hospital.  He then moved to Oak Forest, where he continued his profession at South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest.  He was an easy-going man throughout life, and enjoyed gardening (especially Filipino vegetables such as peppers, green beans and tomatoes).  In retirement he stayed active but enjoyed his naps, and loved spending time with his grandchildren as their beloved "Lolo".  His did play a good game of Poker, but he admittedly had a terrible poker face during the game.  He always loved hosting family gatherings and looked forward to having the family at Christmastime.  Visitation Wednesday, June 7th from 10:00-11:00 at the funeral home, with a Catholic prayer service at 11:00, followed by a procession to Good Shepherd Cemetery for a graveside interment service.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Concordio's name to the American Cancer Society appreciated.
