Christine M. "Chris" Laverty

May 11, 1952 — October 23, 2025

Chris Laverty (née Christine Mary Jazwiec), age 73, longtime resident of Burbank, IL (Lockwood House) passed away peacefully on October 23, 2025, with her daughters at her bedside. Beloved wife of 51 years to her high school sweetheart, Kevin Laverty; cherished mother of Tracey (Jeff) Battistoni, Kelly (Kevin) McMahon, and Kim (Stash) Stefanek. Loving Grammy of Dan (Jacquelyn), Jim (Shannon), Jack, Kyle, Samantha, Bryan, Gianna, AJ, and Allison; Tyler (Kathryn), Zach, and Nathan; Paige and Blake. Great-Grandma of Hailey, Kylie, JJ, Benjamin, Aaron, Clayton, Presley, Max, and Cayden. Fond daughter of the late Steve, Sr. and Dolores Jazwiec (Handzel). Devoted sister to Steve (Sue), Joe, and Mike Jazwiec, and Cathy (Vito) Troia. Dearest sister-in-law to Karen (Art) Uher and Carol (Gabe) Gabrano. Loving aunt to the Uher, Gabrano, Jazwiec, and Troia families. Treasured friend to many.

Chris contracted polio at an early age but never let it define her. She was strong, fierce, determined, independent, and endlessly creative. A lover of live music, Chris could most often be found in her younger years chair dancing and drinking White Russians wherever her husband’s band was playing. In her later years, she enjoyed attending concerts and musicals with family. She was gifted in sewing and loved making her younger daughters’ holiday dresses and Halloween costumes. When she was able, she spent time painting, making arts and crafts, and creating homemade blankets for her grandchildren. Chris was a competitive Rummy and Scrabble player who loved to play while listening to Oldies music.  She shared this love with her grandchildren whom she adored spending time with. She was a wonderful cook, an enthusiastic shopper, an avid slot machine player, a lover of lottery tickets, and a dedicated nap taker.

As the oldest sibling, Chris took that role to heart, continuing to look out for her family well into her later years. In more recent years, she developed a deep love for Jesus Christ, finding peace and joy in her morning devotions and listening to Christian music. She did her best to share her faith and reflect the love of Christ to those around her. Chris was deeply loved and admired by all who knew her.

Chris retired from New York Life Insurance Co. and spent much of her life working a second job at an answering service. Within the past year, she relocated to Texas with her daughter’s family.
