Christel R. "Chris" Bastien

Christel R. "Chris" Bastien, nee Szeklinski, age 91, of Palos Heights, IL, died on August 19, 2025. Beloved wife for over 65 years to Wayne P. Bastien. Loving mother of the late Daniela (Mark) McClellan and the late Nicole Bastien. Cherished grandmother of Jackie (Eddie) Groberski, Eric McClellan and Greg McClellan. Dearest great-grandmother of Evelyn. Dear sister of Uwe Szeklinski and Detlef Szeklinski.

Christel was born in Berlin, Germany to Frieda and Kurt Szeklinski and bravely traveled to the United States during World War II by herself. After arriving in the U.S., Christel built a life for herself, learning English, earning promotions at work and raising a family.

Christel enjoyed gardening, painting, cooking, reading, fashion and Chicago sports. Above all, she loved spending time with, and caring for, her grandchildren.

Visitation Saturday, August 30, 2025 from 10:00 a.m.- 11:00 a.m. with a Memorial Service to follow at 11:00 a.m. at Colonial Chapel, 15525 S. 73rd Ave. (155th/Wheeler Dr. & Harlem) Orland Park, IL.
