Carl was born August 9, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois to Norwegian immigrants Robert and Ella Landekil. In 1946, at age 17, he graduated from Lane Technical High School. Two weeks later he reported for duty in the U.S. Navy and received an honorable discharge in December 1947. His tour of duty took him to China, Australia, the Philippine Islands, and Guam as well as Pearl Harbor and Navy bases along the West Coast. After five years in the printing industry in Chicago, he entered the University of Illinois, graduating in 1957, and worked for various companies in Chicago and its suburbs.

Carl’s favorite hobby was listening to and collecting orchestra and classical music from the 1920’s, 30’s and 40’s. He was an avid reader and a good conversationalist who enjoyed sports, contemporary events, biographies, and documentaries. Bible reading was his daily practice. He belonged to the Des Plaines Bible Church and drove their Sunday school bus. He was also active with Moody Church Young Adults, BASIC (Born Again Singles in Christ), and Christian SAND (Single Adults in New Dimension) where he and Joyce first met in November 1972. After he and Joyce married in 1974, they attended Bible Fellowship Church in South Holland, IL for many years.

Carl and Joyce lived in Tinley Park, IL for 24 years. After his retirement from the U.S. Postal Service in October 1992, and Joyce’s from CNA Insurance Company in March 1998, they moved to Indiana.

Carl was a born-again believer in Jesus Christ and eagerly yearned for his Savior’s return.

He will be laid to rest with military honors at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.
