Barbara Diane Sciaky, nee Hansen (1935 – 2025) passed on December 17, 2025. She is survived by her 3 children: Cindyann (Kathy Witt), Michael, and Scott (Kelly) and grandchildren, Kyle, Daniele (Robert McGowan), Abigail (Ed Monreal), Stephanie, Brooke, and great grandchildren Weston, Wyatt and Rowan. Barbara was preceded in death by her younger brother Norman and Jack Sciaky, her husband for 60 years.
Barb and Jack got married in Evanston, Il in 1961 after she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Lake Forest College and where she was a member of Alpha Phi sorority. From there she started a career at Wieboldt’s as an Art Director for their advertising department and later worked as a librarian at the Palos Park Public Library. Barbara and Jack raised their three children in Palos Park, Illinois where she got involved by being a room mother, a Girl Scouts leader, and a Boy Scouts leader and was also active in many charitable organizations including The Cradle, Infant Welfare, and Recording for the Blind.
As a young woman Barbara loved to ski and was an avid bridge player throughout her life. She was also a voracious reader, loved the New York Times crossword puzzles and created beautiful needlepoint works and gifted them to her family and friends. Barbara was determined to create beautiful experiences for her family in so many ways: learning how to sail as a family, venturing to Alaska on a cruise, taking the family to Lake Tahoe and Wisconsin Dells, attending every kid’s band concert or sporting event, creating uniquely beautiful birthday cards with her artistic talent or bringing the entire extended family and friends together for Christmas, graduation parties, birthday parties or crazy Halloween parties.
Her family and friends will remember her as a thoughtful and giving person and she will be missed.
Services will take place at a later date.
