Arthur W. "Art" Schultz

March 13, 1929 — August 16, 2026

Arthur W. "Art" Schultz, age 97, U.S. Army Korean War Veteran, Purple Heart recipient, long time resident of Midlothian, IL. Beloved husband for 68 years to the late Alice C. Schultz, nee Thorne (2020). Loving father of Patricia (Dennis Droba & the late Mark) Diepen and the late Brenda VanHorn. Cherished grandfather of Jason Diepen, Ryan (Mallory) Diepen and Nicole Allen. Dearest great-grandfather of Harper Diepen and River Allen.

Jack’s education began at the Little Red Schoolhouse and the same determination and character he developed early in life carried forward into everything he did. He was an Eagle Scout, reflecting leadership, responsibility, and a strong sense of purpose. Outside of work and service, he loved the outdoors—fishing, hunting, and boating—cherishing the time spent enjoying God’s creation and the friendships that often came with it.

Jack was a mechanic at Jack Thompson Oldsmobile for 40 years, and in every job and task he approached, he brought the same pride and dedication that marked his whole life. He was also a Korean War Veteran, serving his country with honor and being awarded the Purple Heart for his sacrifice. Through the years, he remained active and committed to those who served, participating in both the VFW and the Purple Heart organizations, always ready to stand for service and community.

Above all, he was the kind of man who was always there to help out whenever he could, with family and friends, offering support in ways large and small. He took deep pride in his loved ones and was a constant presence at the important moments—attending his daughter Patty’s dance performances and daughter Brenda’s volleyball tournaments. He continued being the cheerleader for his grandsons’ sports and later showed the same unwavering encouragement for his great-granddaughter Harper’s basketball and soccer games. His legacy is one of loyalty, service and love, remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
