Cherished grandfather of Steven (Kelly) Deckinga, Sara (Kurt) Vellekoop, Scott Deckinga; Nick (Lydia) Deckinga, Jake (fianceé Karolina) Deckinga, Rachel (fiancé Danny) Doody, Erin Doody, Kyle Doody; Rachel Deckinga, Tiffany (Bryan) Stevens and Brian (Caitlin) Deckinga. Dearest great-grandfather of Evan, Lillian, Liam, Gavin; Maddox, Jamison, Cooper and Bradyn. Art, along with his brother John, started Green Oaks Construction in 1967 and ran it successfully until retirement in 2008. He was a longtime, active member at Palos Heights Christian Reformed Church where he was an elder, deacon and building committee member. Art and Lorraine were among the original volunteers at the Pass It On Thrift Center when it began. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed working on jigsaw puzzles. Art was also known for patiently repairing many strings of Christmas lights over the years.
Visitation Sunday, May 12, 2024 from 2-7 p.m. at Colonial Chapel, 15525 S. 73rd Ave. (155th/Wheeler Dr. & Harlem) Orland Park, IL. Committal Service with Military Honors will take place on Monday, May 13, 2024 at 9:30 a.m. at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 W. Hoff Road, Elwood, IL. Please meet at the cemetery at 9:15 a.m. A Service to Celebrate Art's life will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Palos Heights Christian Reformed Church, 7059 W. 127th St., Palos Heights, IL with a luncheon and fellowship to follow.
