Obituary for William R. Schaafsma Sr.

William R. "Bill" Schaafsma, Sr., age 82, U.S. Coast Guard Veteran. Beloved husband for 60 years to Patricia A. "Pat", nee Hoekstra. Loving and dedicated father of Barb (Ken) Siegers, Kim (Skip) Van Ryn and the late Bev (Bob) Slager and the late William "Billy" Jr. (Amy) Schaafsma. Cherished grandpa of Katie (Eric) Greenhill, Kristen (Matt) Darling; Calvin and Chloe Schaafsma; Lauren (Danny) Dylia and Andrea Schaafsma; Joshua (Sabrina) Siegers and Amanda (Justin) Vander Waal; and Courtney, April and Alexis Van Ryn. Dear great-grandpa "Papa White Hair" of Maddie, Ellie, Josie, Riley, Charlotte and Nolan. Preceded in death by his parents Ray and Minnie Schaafsma. Dear brother of the late Herman (Nancy) Schaafsma.

Bill was a friend to all who met him. He was a Union Pipefitter Local 597 for 47 years at Kroeschell Engineering with a firm dedication to his work. Bill loved his church and was a devoted man of God and father to his children and grandchildren. His integrity was evident to all, as well as his love for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Visitation Sunday, April 18, 2021 from 2-7 p.m. at Colonial Chapel, 15525 S. 73rd Ave. (155th/Wheeler Dr. & Harlem) Orland Park, IL. To uphold safety guidelines, all guests are asked to wear a mask and respect social distancing requirements. A Memorial Service to celebrate Bill's life will be held at Orland Park Christian Reformed Church, 7500 Sycamore Dr., Orland Park, IL on Monday, April 19, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. A live-stream of the service will be available.
